What to Look For
The first thing that you really need to do is look at the business in it's entirety and see whether or not it is a good one. The easiest way to determine how good the business is as a whole is by checking their website and looking to see how long they have been in business. The longer the company has been in business, the better off you are going to be. Ideally, you are going to want to find a pet boarding place that has been in business for at least 5 years.
2. Reputation.
The next thing that you want to look for in a boarding place is their reputation. You must find a place that has a stellar reputation. Look at all of the different online review websites and ensure that there are minimal poor reviews. Look at what the reviews say. Do the reviews mention things about dogs/cats being mistreated? If so, you might want to rethink allowing your pet to stay there. The better the reviews for the business, the more comfortable you should feel about leaving your best friend there to stay. Never use a poorly reviewed kennel as it will just cause a lot of stress on both; you and your pet.
3. Cleanliness.
The next thing that you are going to want to look for in a kennel/boarding place is whether or not it is clean. You absolutely need to find a place that is clean and that you would feel comfortable leaving your best friend in for the night (or longer).
4. Staff.
The next thing you want to consider is whether or not the staff seems knowledgable and caring. If the staff is rude or not knowledgable, you should question whether or not you want to let your pet stay there. The chances are, if a staff treats the humans that walk in poorly, they will likely treat the pets just as bad - if not worse. Therefore, this should always be a clear indicator as to how good the boarding place is.
5. Exercise.
It is essential that you check to ensure that the pets are getting enough exercise everyday. Most pets need ample amounts of exercise in order to thrive and be happy. Therefore, you should ask about the pets exercise routines and whether or not they get to spend a lot of time outdoors. The more exercise, the better.
6. Vet Services.
You also want to be sure that there is going to be some type of veterinarian service provided in case your pet gets sick during the stay.
